Reconnect, Rebuild, and Move Forward

Coaching individuals and couples to reconnect, rebuild, and move forward toward a better tomorrow.

Why Choose Forward-Focused Relationship Coaching?

Traditional relationship counseling wastes months rehashing old arguments. The solutions approach flips the script by focusing on solutions, goals, and possibilities.

  • Present Assessment: Map your current situation accurately without getting stuck in old blame loops.

  • Future Focus: Direct your energy exclusively toward designing your "preferred future" as a team.

  • Instant Improvement: Walk away with immediate actionable adjustments after session number one.

  • Skill Building: Develop practical, concrete connection skills you can use for the rest of your lives.

  • Short Term: Because this approach is highly focused, most couples achieve clarity, resolution, and meaningful transformation within just 3 to 6 sessions.

  • Limited caseload: I intentionally work with a select number of clients to ensure each receives my full attention and thoughtful support.

The Solutions Approach: How It Works

Uncover Your Motivation

We start by identifying what still connects you and what you both want your future to look like. Your shared motivation is the anchor for our entire process.

Discover Hidden Possibilities

We look at your day-to-day interactions to find small, hidden opportunities where connection, trust, and understanding can be easily rebuilt.

Identify Clear Goals

We define exactly what a successful relationship means to you, establishing clear, realistic solutions that both partners feel excited to achieve.

Construct Actionable Steps

Every single session ends with a personalized, concrete plan to implement in your daily routine immediately.

Meet Your Coach

Brian Milliken, LPCC, LMFT

I have spent 30 years helping couples shift from repetitive arguments and "roommate" dynamics into forward-focused, thriving partnerships.

Operating an online coaching practice nationwide, I help couples move toward their preferred future through a structured, nonjudgmental, action-oriented approach. Rather than spending months rehashing past trauma or assigning blame, I use The Solutions Approach—a framework I developed by integrating systems theory with evidence-informed strategies such as the Gottman Method—to provide practical tools that help repair trust, interrupt destructive patterns, and create communication breakthroughs.

What People Are Saying...

We were caught in a cycle of blaming each other for years of little hurts. Brian changed our entire view. Instead of dissecting past fights, we looked at what our ideal daily life looked like and the small steps to get there. “The first week we saw a shift in the way we communicated."

I was skeptical because I didn't want to spend months rehashing old arguments. The sessions were exactly what we needed. They were practical, positive, and future-focused. We learned to spot the moments where we were connecting well and multiply them. It saved our marriage.

After having kids, we felt like roommates who just managed a household. During the sessions we uncovered the skills we already had as a couple but had forgotten about. The scaling questions and small weekly experiments made reconnection feel achievable rather than overwhelming. We feel like a team again.

I felt totally lost going through a major life transition. Brian introduced me to the concept of liminal time, that disquieting space of change. But training myself to see this messy middle as a natural part of growth rather than a failure changed my whole perspective. Those insights helped me find peace during a very uncertain time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get clarity on our services and approach.

How do you work with clients?

I deliberately limit my practice to a select number of clients to be fully present and engaged in each case.

Collaborative Approach: In session, we will work collaboratively to explore the many possibilities that may work for your situation.  Depending on your desires, we may explore different angles, build solutions, or develop awareness of the larger systems and circumstances surrounding the issue, yet with a focus on moving forward with actionable steps toward a better future.

What to Expect Based on Session Type:

  • Couples and Family Sessions: In sessions, I do not take sides.  The entire unit is my client with an orientation of adjusting relational dynamics and improving situations, moving toward building a better connection between you and your loved one.

  • Individual Sessions: We will look at what you are hoping to get from the experience and collaboratively discover what will work for your situation, while moving toward a more preferred future.

My orientation includes considering our relationships to life. We will take into account relational factors, which may include environments, people, culture, expectations and roles. The process may assist you in gaining a deeper understanding of your values and skills, leading toward transformative change.

What's the difference between coaching and therapy?

In the state of New Mexico, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.  For those in the entire United States, there is an option for relationship and solutions coaching, not therapy, if you qualify. I’m here to assist you in moving forward and navigating challenges with tools and strategies that are practical and action-oriented.

If you need mental health support, you will not qualify for coaching,  and you will be given a clinical hand-off to a licensed therapist in your area.

If you have any questions about the distinction between therapy and coaching, I’m always happy to clarify further.

How do virtual sessions work?

You will be given a Zoom link when you receive your reminder email for the consultation. Additional participants will also be given a Zoom link when requested.

How do I pay for the session(s)?

You will be prompted to make payment when scheduling through our scheduling system. It will accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover Card, American Express, and debit cards.

Are the coaching sessions confidential?

Yes. In coaching, like in therapy, everything you say to me stays between us.  Please note that since we are focusing on designing a healthy partnership, I practice a 'No-Secrets' policy. If you share information with me individually that directly impacts the health or future of your relationship, I will not hold that secret from your partner. I will work with you to find a way to bring it to the table together.

My commitment to your privacy is absolute, with the standard exceptions required by law and professional ethics:

As your relationship and solutions coach, I will not disclose or use confidential information without the client's express written consent, except when disclosure is required by applicable law, pursuant to a valid court order or subpoena, or when I reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to help prevent imminent serious harm to the client or another person.
